Sana Malik Shaikh, born and raised in Mumbai, hails from a family of farmers who migrated from Dhuswa, Uttar Pradesh, in the 1950s. Her education and life lessons were shaped by the diverse and vibrant culture of Mumbai, a city that embraces all. Sana began her professional journey as an architect and later earned an LLB degree, which equipped her with a strong foundation for navigating various fields.

First Assembly Speech: Deonar RMC Plants (Dec 19, 2024)
Sana Malik used her maiden address to raise serious environmental and public health concerns. She urged the government to shut down RMC (Ready-Mix Concrete) plants in Deonar—specifically citing JSW and Relcon—pointing out they flouted pollution norms, lacked dust controls, and operated despite expired licenses, affecting over 50,000 residents. This drew swift action: the BMC ordered the shutdown of the JSW plant and issued notices to others.
Misuse of Free Beds in Charitable Hospitals (July 2025)
In a Calling Attention motion, she spotlighted how beds meant for Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) patients were being misappropriated. Citing a survey, she noted that although 71% of beds were designated for BPL patients, actual utilization was negligibly low. She also questioned the portal launched by the government in 2024, stressing the need for transparency, visible signage, and real-time updates on bed availability.
Women’s Freedom to Choose Name Format (March 2025)
Sana Malik pushed for a government resolution to allow women the flexibility to choose how names appear in official records—whether using maiden name, married name, or a combination, including mother or father’s name. She shared how mismatches between her academic and legal records caused confusion. The Speaker and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar supported her proposal, leading to a new directive that gives women clear naming options.
Noise Pollution Standards Reform
Highlighting the inadequacy of existing noise norms (55 dB by day, 45 dB by night for residential areas), she flagged that ambient noise often exceeded 60 dB—even inside the Assembly. Her appeal to revise these standards prompted Chief Minister Fadnavis to approve a survey and pledge to recommend updated decibel limits to the central government.
Support for Urdu Academy’s Golden Jubilee (July 2025)
Joining MLAs across party lines, Sana Malik advocated for government backing for the Urdu Sahitya Academy’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The collective demonstration emphasized the cultural unity between Marathi and Urdu communities.

Mumbai: The noise pollution limit set under the Environment Protection Act 1986 is inadequate in the current situation. Therefore, it is recommended to the Assembly that it is necessary to improve the decibel limit.
